About Our Program

For the past six years, Equality California Institute has been at the forefront of advancing LGBTQ+ education through general and health equity training. We’ve partnered with health and human service providers across California, and to date, more than 5,200 providers and community leaders have completed our core LGBTQ+ curriculum.

Our training empowers providers to deliver culturally competent, and inclusive care and other direct services to LGBTQ+ people. Participants learn about LGBTQ+ terminology, the benefits of intersecting identities, and practical steps to create welcoming environments for all clients. Importantly, we show providers how to ask the right questions, evaluate risk, and connect LGBTQ+ people with inclusive services and support.

We offer training in English and Spanish, available online and in-person, live and on-demand—ensuring that people across the state can access this essential knowledge and put it into practice in their communities.

Our Approach

Even in California—home to some of the nation’s strongest LGBTQ+ civil rights protections—deep disparities remain. Discrimination and unequal access to education, housing, employment, and healthcare continue to harm LGBTQ+ communities, particularly transgender and gender-nonconforming people, LGBTQ+ people of color, immigrants, and people with disabilities.

Equality California Institute is working to close these gaps through:

  • Providing LGBTQ+ training to health and service providers,
  • Educating and mobilizing the public,
  • Building leadership and allyship across sectors, and
  • Fostering greater understanding and acceptance of LGBTQ+ people.

We’re excited to connect with you and explore how we can support your work to advance the health, well-being or general education of LGBTQ+ people and the diverse communities we’re proud to be part of.
